Put Your Best Face Forward with Facial Resurfacing

facial to treat fine lines and wrinkles

Confidence is apparent just by looking at a person.  They stand straight, look you in the eye, and emit a sureness about themselves.

When your skin is clear, even and smooth, your appearance is boosted and confidence closely follows.

Aging, time, climate, pollution and stress can take a toll on our skin and can especially be evident on our face.  Facial resurfacing can revitalize your skin, renewing your glow and growing your confidence…allowing you to put your best face forward with a smile. Heart of Texas Lashes in Weatherford, Texas offers this wonderful, renewing service! 😍

Why is Our Skin Important?

Our skin has 3 layers of dermal tissue: the epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. Not only does our skin protect our muscles, ligaments, organs and bones, but is plays a vital role in our immune system. It protects us from water loss and from germs.

Our skin serves as a temperature regulator, insulator, protector of vitamin B and provider of synthesis of vitamin D from the sun. Healthy skin allows us to feel external sensations more effectively and allows better healing when damaged. So, our skin isn’t just about how we look, it is the largest organ in the body and we need to take care of it.

Your epidermis, the top layer, is what we can see and touch.  This is our protective barrier from the germs, bacteria and weather.  It is constantly regenerating new cells which contain the protein Keratin, continuously.

About every 30 days we have new skin. 😮Yet, as we get older, and with environmental issues, our skin doesn’t always regenerate as well as it did when we were younger.

Why is Resurfacing a Good Idea for Our Skin?

As we age, the epidermis starts to show deterioration  from aging, environment, stress and injury.   Skin resurfacing treatments can aid in reversing or slowing this epidermal damage. You will appear younger and healthier because the area treated will generate fresh skin cell growth.

That is the biology behind skin resurfacing, but the results you will see in the mirror will make you feel as good on the inside as it does on the outside.

Skin resurfacing will help to improve your skin’s texture, appearance, and smoothness. These results can last for years with proper skin care and maintenance. A resurfacing treatment will help with uneven skin tone, improve skin texture, soften acne scarring as well as fine line and wrinkles.  It will also relieve sun damaged skin.

How is Facial Resurfacing Done at Heart of Texas Lashes?

Heart of Texas uses an exfoliating tool to remove the hair and the very thinnest top layer of skin. It is not a chemical peel, a laser, or dermabrasion. It is non-surgical and involves little to no down time. It will not be painful, though those with sensitive skin may experience slight discomfort.

The Do’s and Don’ts to Prepare for Your Facial Resurfacing Treatment

DO

  • Stop all retinoid creams and glycolic, salicylic, or lactic acid treatments
  • Ask your doctor if there is any reason to stop OTC blood thinners like aspirin, fish oils, ibuprofen and vitamin E. For most clients, this is not necessary but should be checked.
  • Avoid alcohol and smoking as they can cause inflammation. Alcohol can thin the blood as well.
  • Hydrate well. Drink plenty of water the day before and day of treatment.

DON’T

  • Begin using any new facial products prior to treatment
  • Use self-tanners, experience unprotected sun exposure, or go to tan spa prior to resurfacing. This can cause irritation.
  • Use topical skin care products the day of appointment
  • Get eyelash extensions until after your facial resurfacing treatment. (If you already have eyelash extensions, speak to your esthetician to hear suggestions for eyelash care)

After your Treatment

You can expect to leave the office immediately. Drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated. Avoid touching or picking at your skin.  It is a good idea to avoid heavy makeup or skin care products that day, unless your esthetician suggests a particular product. Your pores will be more open so fresh, clean skin will regenerate more quickly if kept fresh.  Avoid sun or tanning.

You may experience mild redness, tenderness or swelling. Some people do experience some bumps or sensitivity for a short while. Some clients may have scabs or bruising, that will resolve after a few days.
